I contacted amazon to return the product but instead they let me keep it and refunded my money. It ended up being a great experience but if you need a case fast think twice about this one. Unless of course you don’t care it’s too big.

Kata has the best built soft cases for protection of your expensive gear. I also own the R-102 backpack. This holster can fit a Canon 30D with grip, 70-200 f/2.8L (hood reversed) on the side pocket, 430EX flash (defuser mounted) on the other side pocket, Sigma 10-20(hood reversed) on the bottom of the bag with my camera and EF-S 17-55 IS (hood reversed) mounted. Just what I needed…
By RollingRocks
I just got this holster, and I love it. I also have the Kata R-103 that I use to carry almost all of my equipment. I use this holster however for my “light days”. With it, I can bring my D-80 with the 18-135mm bolted on, a 70-300 VR lens, and the SB-800 flash unit with ease. There is enough space to put in a couple of EN-EL3E batteries. It has an pocket where I put my memory cards, and spare flash batteries. With the TST, military standard nylon and internal foam padding, I am assured my gear is safe. It also comes with an all-weather cover that shields the entire holster and equipment from rain or intense heat from the sun.

The Kata H-14 GDC Holster case holds my Canon 5d with quick-release tripod plate attached, the 24-205mm zoom attached, and there’s extra room as well as side pockets. The ribs look like an umpire’s vest, and serve the same impact shock-reducing purpose.

The quality of manufacture and the utility of the bag is excellent!

(CRABBY NOTES: but the bag has a slightly larger profile than I would like…I’m a girl…and wanted the bag to be less noticeable..I maybe shoulda looked at the next size-down holster. It really is a quality item, but as a woman, I am pretty picky about bags, and this one is a bit big! But, I cannot deduct stars just ‘cuz i wanted something smaller!)

The “i” is for “improved” and Kata has added some useful features to the 467 which I believe makes this backpack the best one of this size. I don’t believe another brand backpack with these same features exist…at least not for this price. I’ve never owned a Kata bag before, but I was familiar with their build quality and knew that they offer features that are well thought out. Currently, I have been through a total of four previous DSLR camera bags and I’ve finally found a keeper!

Features that sold me on the Kata 467i:

1. The Kata “Insert Trolley” slot for securing (sliding over) your carry-on luggage handle through while traveling.
2. Tripod/monopod/umbrella/water bottle lower mesh holder and upper securing strap
3. Lightweight (3.7 lbs) and high quality materials used throughout.
4. Bright yellow interior (every compartment, even the laptop area) for easily locating bag contents.
5. Top accessible laptop storage is much better than side accessible lap top storage (Lowepro FP 250). I no longer need to lay my bag on its side to get to my lap top. This Kata easily fits my HP DV6 16.5″ laptop.
6. Center chest strap to relieve some of the weight from your shoulders
7. The padded floor of the top compartment unzips and folds up, allowing access to the lower camera compartment. This is great for accessing your camera when space is a concern. (coach airline seating)
8. Does not have the typical huge hip/waist belt to get in the way and dig into your back when its not being used (99% of the time), just a simple nylon strap and clips instead.
9. Rain cover is included.
10. The top handle is awesome and very comfortable carry when not having this strapped to your back.

Update:
It has been a couple weeks after purchasing this bag and I am still extremely happy with it. Now I should probably list what camera gear I normally fit into this. Nikon D90 with MB-D80 grip mounted to a Nikon 50mm 1.4 prime. Alongside that I have a Tokina 11-16 2.8 and Nikon 35mm 1.8 prime. This all fits in the lower camera compartment. A Nikon 70-200 2.8 (inside the Nikon zipper case) fits snugly in the top compartment parallel to the ground. There is a little room to spare on the top of this compartment too. After all that, there is still room for miscellaneous things like a small rocket blaster, small table top tripod, SD cards etc. in the front zipper pockets. I hope this helps!

Update 9 months later:
Still going strong. Since my last review I have sold the D90, MB-D80 grip, and 11-16 Tokina. Now using a D700 (no accessory grip) and 16-35 f/4. The 16-35 fits perfectly in the bottom side partition, and the D700 attached to 50mm f/1.4 fits with room to spare in bottom main compartment. Still an excellent backpack and highly recommended.

I don’t own many lenses, so I knew I didn’t need a bag that could hold a million of them. I also wanted to be able to carry an iPad. I purchased the Kata 3N1-22 ($120) first because it had the convenience of a sling bag that could also be worn as a backpack. However, I found it to be too deep for the compact Pentax K-x and regular lenses. My gear was able to jiggle around too much. The top compartment was surprisingly small for such a hefty bag. This was due to an inefficient use of space in the lower compartment, imo. It wasn’t very easy to access some things, either. I then decided on the DR-series. I got the DR-467i ($80), in particular, because it could also fit my 17″ MBP, and the “i” (improved) version holds a tripod on the side. I’ve decided this bag is a keeper, so here’s my review.

First Impressions: In contrast to the 3N1-22, I was pleasantly surprised at how much storage space this bag has outside of the camera compartment while retaining a slim profile overall. Like any Kata I’ve handled, the build quality of the bag is exceptional and the brightly-colored interior makes small items easy to find, any debris easy to spot, and is soft, smooth, and protective. The zippers and tabs seem to be durable. It’s easy to swing the bag around one shoulder to your chest and not difficult to access your camera from there. The bag also sits freely upright on the ground, so there’s no need to lay it in the dirt when you take it off.

Lower compartment: This camera compartment fits 4-5 loose lenses and a body with lens. I don’t have that many lenses so I keep the included Kata rain cover in this compartment, as well as spare batteries, charger, and my PS camera. The dividers are, of course, rearrangeable and of nice quality. When fully unzipped, this compartment pulls out far enough to be perpendicular to the bag, safely allowing you to access your camera gear with the bag laying flat, should you choose to. This compartment is also removable, allowing you to transform the bag from a camera bag into a regular one. It fits my K-x nicely.

Upper Compartment: They top compartment is spacious. You can fit several bottles of water in here! If you don’t have that much to carry, the pull straps will compress the bag so that nothing bounces around inside. This compartment has a few organizer pockets, and it can easily fit an iPad in landscape or portrait.

Middle Compartment and Pockets: There’s also a middle compartment that has a good bit of room. This is where I keep my cleaning supplies, including a big rocket blower, and there’s room for more. The outer pockets on either side of the zipper for the middle compartment can hold extra batteries, memory cards, and filters. I have a few filters in individual cases in one and my IR remote and extra SD cards in the other. There are no dedicated card or filter holders on the bag, but these pockets work well enough.

Tripod Holder: There’s nothing special about the tripod holder, but it is nice that you can conceal it when not in use. The mesh pocket that holds the feet stows away into a zipped pocket, and the strap that holds the top of the tripod is easily removable. I would prefer the strap to have a buckle, but I guess Kata was afraid of it coming off while you’re using the tripod if you don’t re-buckle it. The mesh pocket can also hold a water bottle when you’re not carrying a tripod, however, Kata failed to include this mesh pocket on the other side, which would’ve allowed you to carry a water bottle AND tripod.

Laptop Compartment: Pretty straightforward. The manufacturer’s description indicates that this bag will fit most 15″ laptops, however, it does fit my 17″ MacBook Pro quite well. The front and back of the compartment is safely padded. You can fit a hydration system in here, too.

The Back of the Bag: The back is comfortable when you’re wearing it, although the shoulder straps could use some more padding. I bought some dark-grey sheepskin seatbelt covers to use on them. You might be okay with them, though; my shoulders got ripped up in the Army, so they’re more sensitive to packs. The straps have a metal ring on each, made for Kata’s Reflex E camera strap. The Reflex E can snap to the rings on the bag so that you don’t have to wear the camera around your neck. The back has Kata’s trolly loop, too, that they call InserTrolly. The waist strap is simple and effective. I’ve felt no need to have a padded one. Kata included an elastic strap-keeper on the waist belt but nowhere else. Needless to say, strap-keepers on the rest of the straps would have been nice. This bag is compatible with Kata’s EPH system that allows additional bags to be attached to this one. There are four nylon loops on the bottom made for this. I wish Kata had placed these loops further back towards the center on the bottom of the bag, though, because they dig into my back if I don’t flip them out first. They’re all right if I make sure I flip them back. There’s also one of these loops on the top near the carry handle.

Rain Cover: The included rain cover fits very well. It is secured around each shoulder strap by velcro taps. Although these velcro tabs are thin, they appear to do just fine. The cover is easy to get on and off, as well as stow back into itself. I have not tested it in a downpour, but I’m sure it’s better than nothing, at least.

Conclusion: With only a few minor shortcomings, this bag’s pros heavily outweigh the little cons. For anyone who isn’t carrying a boatload of lenses but needs the option of packing for travel, hiking, or a long shoot, including a laptop and tripod, I think you’ll be happy with the Kata DR-467i backpack.

A great belt case for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5
By James F. Strasma
Much as I love using the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 10.1 MP Digital Camera with 3.8x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3.0-Inch LCD (White), it’s been really tough to find a suitable belt case for it. Until now, I’ve used a Lowepro 50 that works well enough except that its Velcro flap is for the memory card or spare battery, rather than for the camera. That gives great protection, but led to missed shots as I wrestled with having to open both the flap and the zipper before gaining access to the camera.

The Kata DF-408 case is similar in size, but has no zippers. Its Velcro flap gives immediate access to the camera, and also covers a separately-Velcro-sealed small pouch just big enough to hold a spare battery and memory card. Like the Lowepro, the belt loop is very securely fastened with Velcro, but easily and quickly opened to don or remove the case from a belt.

Other details: 5 year warranty, and internal main compartment dimensions are: 7cm/2.75″ by 5cm/1.96″ wide by 11.5cm/4.5″ It casme with a nicely-made neck/shoulder strap I don’t plan to use.

Highly recommended for use with the Panasonic Lumix LX5.

Only found 2 cases that can acomodate LX5 and are not too big. But one looks so big and clunky. The other is a Tamrac 5691 that I need to squeeze it in. So I ended with nothng there.

I’m really glad to found a review on Amazon that mentioned this Kata DF-408 for LX5. So I ordered one and just received it. The case fit Panasonic Lx5 just right, no need to squeeze the camera in. It does not have a thick padding of protection like Lowepro or other brand. But I think it is ok and the case with LX5 inside still fit in my pocket. A big plus.

I’d recommend this case for the Panasonic LX5.

The Lumix LX5 fits very snugly in the bag, including the camera strap. Once the bag is attached to your waist belt, it can be forgotten about since it is double velcroed and won’t become detatched. The single release flap is handy and the camera slides out easily for quick use. If you have the Lumix LX5 then the Kata Df408 was made for your camera.

It has removeable padded inserts and bottom stiffener. I can carry a digital camera body, 2 prime lenses, 1 normal zoom, 2 portable strobes, pocket wizards and various cables, and batteries with some room left over.

The construction of this bag is extremely rugged. I have the “Ballistic” material which seems invincible to me. The material is also waterproofed so in the rain the water runs right off — as long as you close the pockets and top correctly, your gear will be safe.

One of the things I like about the Domke bags is the modular compartment inserts you can buy to configure your bag how you need it. Let’s say you have several configurations for your kit depending on your assignments. You can preset some inserts with the proper gear and store them in your drybox. When you need to swap out the kits, just remove and replace.

Tough, protective, and clean-looking. I’m a photojournalist and needed something to carry at least a body multiple lenses, a flash and lots of other pieces and parts. This bag does all I need it to. I purchased the Domke 720-250D insert because I wanted a better layout where the camera could have a lens on it and I’d still have room for 2 other lenses, flash and audio recorder in the main area for quick access. From my experience, that is the best setup for me, others might prefer something else.
Domke 720-250D DSLR Camera Insert (Green)

Cameras? Lenses? No problem… I know exactly what I want. Bags? A different story. I looked at a lot of bags by a lot of manufacturers, but came back to Domke (which makes the bag I was replacing). Domke makes a great bag: very sturdy, well built, flexible, fairly light, easy to carry, easy to access your camera. If I was traveling a lot and was more interested in protection, I’d perhaps have made another choice. But for those of us who want a bag that provides a lot of protection and organization and is great for shooters (easy to grab your camera), this is the bag for you. Highly recommended. Would definitely buy this bag again…

Mach II
I have had many polarizers over the years. I have used filters such as this for over 25 years. I like the Tiffen as it is not too dark for most uses. I keep it on for almost every shot (unless it is night time or quite dark) to protect my lenses and for it’s mild polarizing effect. (I take 1000s of images on a shoot, mostly landscape) Some other brands are too dark to do this. The dark ones many times look too polarized, and post processing has to take much of this out anyway. I do have a few of these and use them occasionally. I have found that an image that is properly balanced that does not need too much darkening or lightening post processing is much better, I have a Hoya but it is always falling apart (and way too dark). I have Heliopan 77mm Circular Polarizer Lens Filters and like the quality, but again they are too dark to keep on all the time. The Heliopan is the one I keep for special uses when I want more polarizing effects than I get with the Tiffen. The Tiffen polarizers I have had only were replaced when they became too scratched for use, broken from being dropped or run into things, or lost over board in my boat. As I said a couple of Hoya ones were replaced because they fell apart.
I use a Canon 5D with all high end L series lenses (most costing well over $1000.00) and have sold over 1300 framed GiClees ($300-$800 each). I feel that this filter does not compromise the quality of my images.
So in review. I don’t want an unnatural appearance due to my filters. I do want the pleasing effects I can achieve with the Tiffen filter. I have never had a problem with any I had purchased, so recommend them to others. And I will continue to use them myself.
Albert Mach Fine Art

(If you have a manual focus camera you need a linear polarizer) The polarizer darkens blue skies (if the sky is light blue, you get deep, rich blue) and eleminates glare and reflection in glass and water.

With this filter, you can take a photo of someone standing in front of a window and not have the glare or reflection of the window shooting back into the lens. It also helps you shoot indoors at an aquarium (you can take crystal-clear photos of the killer whales and dolphins without glare from the glass).

This filter can’t take the photos for you, but it can make your photos look much more professional. The only thing to be careful of is the fact that the polarizer makes the image a little darker, so if you are shooting in dark light, you need a flash or a slower shutter speed.

The threading fits on my Nikkor lenses perfectly, screws on and stays put. The rotating ring on the filter is not too tight, nor too loose and rotates very smoothly, staying put where it’s set at. When comparing identical images taken with and without the filter, there are no noticable distortions or color shifts present.

It’s pretty strong and the battery life is good. The stock battery lasts me a good 2-3 hours w/ life still left. You can use sony lithium batteries so thats another +. The filters help, but I still find myself doing a lot of color correction in post. The barn doors are flimsy and don’t work to well when moving so I just took them off… no big deal. The built seems a bit toyish and weak, but it’s got a nice sturdy weight and sits nice on top my camera. Overall, good light for the price.

Anderson
Contrary to one reviewer, all of the functions work on the T3i. He must have gotten a defective unit.

This was easy to set up, setting the time and date was easy, and the instructions are actually pretty useful in setting up the interval timer, which works as advertised. Although not specifically stated in the instructions, if you go by the display, the maximum interval seems to be 9 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds. You can set it to snap up to 999 images at whatever interval you set. It also comes with an infrared remote to trigger it for self portraits and group shots. This works on the camera without the battery pack, so I thought that was pretty nifty, plus it saved me from having to buy one separately.

Also contrary to another reviewer, the light does not stay on. Well, it stays on for 10 seconds when you press the button for it, but that’s it. I’m very happy with this purchase.
