2Invest in a better photo frame
By kari
We got this as a gift for my mother in law. As a favor (since we are tech savvy and she is not), we thought we’d upload some photos for her before we gave it to her. There are so many issues here, it is hard to know where to start:
1) It is NOT intuitive. I found the controls very difficult to use, and the minimal User Manual was almost useless.
2) The main menu icons are just icons, it doesn’t tell you what they are. You have to hunt in the User Manual to see what the icons mean.
3) It says it has a 480 x 800 resolution. So I used Photoshop and made ALL my photos 480 x 800 or less. They are shown in the slideshow larger than that (the whole photo doesn’t fit on the screen) and then it pans around the photo to show the whole photo. This is really irritating. I just want my photo to show up as I have it, the frame zooms in and pans around the photo during slideshow. I can’t find a way to turn this off.
4) I uploaded the photos directly from my computer via USB cable. I had the photos in the order I want them to display by name – they were named 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. And when I look at the photos in an Explorer window on the frame, they are in the order I wanted. However, when I go into the “album”, they are ordered by Date Taken. If you scan in photos, there is no “date taken” associated with the JPG file. Since you can’t reorganize the order of the photos in the album, you are either stuck with them mixed up or you have to right click the JPG image (before you upload) go to Properties and assign a Date Taken for each JPG file. Really annoying. I want to reorder them or order them by name.
5) The photos on my computer are landscape. I uploaded them to the frame. ON the frame, in the album, the album shows them as landscape. But the slideshow displayes them rotated to portrait! I can’t find any way to tell the slideshow to play the photos as they are in the album. So instead, I rotated the images in Explorer, reuploaded them to the frame (so they look sideways in the album), but at least they play right in the slideshow. After further review, this turned out to be some problem with their automatic rotation scheme. I turned it off and on again, and now the slideshow orientation matches the album.
